From 7:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. →12:00 -

7:20
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯4:40 (4 hrs 40 minutes)

and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. →1:40

⇒ Total =5 hours 80 minutes =6 hours 20 minutes is duration for which the school remain open.
