Question

A simple pendulum is executing simple harmonic motion with a time period T; If the length of the pendulum. Is increased by 21%, the Increase in the time period of the pendulum of Increased length is

Solution
Verified by Toppr

We know that,

The time period is

T1=2πlg

Now, length is increased by 21%

So, new length is

l=l+l21100=121l100

Now put the value of l in equation (I)

T2=2π  121l100g

T2=2π121l100g

T2=1110×2πlg

T2=1110T1

Now, change in time period is

ΔT=T2T1

ΔT=1110T1T1

ΔT=110T1

Now,

Percentage change

=ΔTT×100

=T110T1×100

=10 %

Hence, this is the required solution
