Question

A solid cylinder has a TSA of 462cm2. Its CSA is one-third of its TSA. Find the volume of the cylinder.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

CSA of cylinder =13 TSA of the cylinder 2πrh=13×2πr(h+r)=13×462cm2
2πrh=154cm2
TSA of cylinder =2πr(h+r)462cm2=2πrh+2πr2=154cm2+2πr2
462cm2154cm2=2πr2308cm2=2×227×r2308×72×22=r2
r2=49r=7cm
CSA of cylinder =154cm2 2πrh=154cm2
2×227×7cm×h=154cm2 h=15444=72cm
Volume of the cylinder =πr2h=227×72×72cm3=227×49×72cm3=539cm3.
