Question

Reason
A spherical equipotential surface is possible inside a spherical capacitor.
Assertion
A spherical equipotential surface is not possible for a point charge.
A spherical equipotential surface is not possible for a point charge.

A
Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
B
Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
C
Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect
D
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Correct option is D. Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect
The electric field lines due to a point charge are always originating point as the charge itself directing to infinity in throughout the 3-D space , so equipotential surface will be hypothetical spheres (having centres at point charge ) and electric field lines are radially perpendicular to its surface as shown in figure.
On the other hand equipotential surface in capacitor will be parallel to plates and perpendicular to electric field.
