Question

A spring balance A reads 2 kg with a block of mass m suspended from it. Another balance Breads 3 kg when a beaker with a liquid is put on its pan. The two balances are now so arranged that the hanging mass m is fully immersed inside the liquid in the beaker as shown in the figure. In this situation.

  1. The balance A will read 2 kg and B will read 5 kg
  2. The balance A will read 2 kg and B will read 3 kg
  3. The balance A will read less than 2 kg and B will read between 3 kg and 5 kg
  4. The balance A will.read less than 2 kg and B will read 3 kg

A
The balance A will read 2 kg and B will read 5 kg
B
The balance A will read less than 2 kg and B will read between 3 kg and 5 kg
C
The balance A will.read less than 2 kg and B will read 3 kg
D
The balance A will read 2 kg and B will read 3 kg
Solution
Verified by Toppr

mass of block = 2 kg
& mass of water = 3 kg
& if it is in the arrangement so A will read less than the mass due to buoyant force hence less than 2 kg & balance B will read somewhere between 3 kg & 5 kg due to block & spring.

The spring balance A reads 2 kg with a block of mass m suspended from it. A balance B reads 5 kg when a beaker with liquid is put on the pan of the balance. The two balances are now so arranged that the hanging mass is inside the liquid in the beaker as shown in the figure, in this situation (given density of block > density of liquid)
