Question

A stationary ball weighing 0.25 kg acquires a speed of 10 m/s when hit by a hockey stick. The impulse imparted to the ball is:

  1. 0.5 Ns
  2. 2.5 Ns
  3. 1.5 Ns
  4. 2.0 Ns

A
2.0 Ns
B
2.5 Ns
C
1.5 Ns
D
0.5 Ns
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given that the mass of the body is 0.25kg is at rest initially. when the body is hit by the stick it gains speed of 10 m/s.
means initial speed u=0 and after getting hit it's final speed v=10m/s.
we know that impulse is equal to change in momentum i.e. Impulse J=m(vu)
so here J=0.25(100) kg m/s or N
hence The impulse imparted to the ball is 2.5Ns
