Question

A thin rod of length f/3 is placed along the optical axis of a concave mirror of focal length f such that its image which is real and elongated just touches the rod. Calculate the magnification.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let l be length of image
then
m=lf3
l=mf3
Also image of one end coincide with object
u=2f
u=u+f3
u=2ff3=5f3

v=(u+f3+mf3)

Putting mirror formula

1u+f3+mf3+1u=1f

35f+f+mf+35f=1f

1m+6=215

m=32
