A time keeper in a 100 m run is advised to start the stop watch by seeing the smoke from the starter's gun and not b hearing the sound of fire. Why?

Because when gun is fired , sound takes some time to reach to the listener (time keeper) , so if he wait for the sound , he will be late a bit . Whereas smoke comes out from the gun just after the fire .
