A verandah 1.25 m is constructed all along outside of a room 7.5 m long and 5 m wide. Find
(i) the area of the verandah.
(ii) the cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of Rs.15 per m2.

Area of the room is given by 7.5m×5m = 37.5m2
Area of the verandah with room is given by (7.5+1.25+1.25)m×(5+1.25+1.25)m=10m×7.5m=75m2
The area of the verandah = 75m2 - 37.5m2 = 37.5m2
Cost of cementing the floor of the verandah = Rs.15/m2
Total cost of cementing the floor of the verandah = 37.5×15=Rs562.5
