A verandah of width $$2.25$$ m is constructed all along outside a room which is $$5.5$$ m long and $$4$$ m wide. Find the area of the verandah.

A verandah of width $$2.25$$m is constructed all along outside a room which is $$5.5$$m long and $$4$$m wide.

The length of room$$=5.5$$ m and width of the room$$=4$$ m

The length of the room with verandah$$=5.5+2.25+2.25=10$$ m

The width of the room with verandah$$=4+2.25+2.25=8.5$$ m

Area of verandah$$=$$Area of the room with verandah$$-$$Area of the room without a verandah

$$=$$ Area of ABCD$$-$$Area of EFGH

$$=(AB\times AD)-(EF\times EH)$$

$$=(10\times 8.5)-(5.5\times 4)\\$$
$$=85-22\\$$
$$=63m^2$$
