Question

Add:
$$ \dfrac{-5}{6}$$ and $$ \dfrac{4}{9} $$

Solution
Verified by Toppr

$$ \dfrac{-5}{6}$$ and $$ \dfrac{4}{9} $$
It can be written as
$$ = \dfrac{-5}{6} + \dfrac{4}{9} $$
LCM of $$6$$ and $$9$$ is $$36$$
$$ = \dfrac{-5 \times 6}{6 \times 6} + \dfrac{4 \times 4}{9 \times 4} $$
By further calculation
$$ = \dfrac{-30}{36} + \dfrac{16}{36} $$
So we get
$$ = \dfrac{-30 + 16}{36} $$
$$ = \dfrac{-14}{36} $$

$$ = \dfrac{-7}{18} $$
