Question

Add the following rational numbers:
$$\cfrac{-5}{36}$$ and $$\cfrac{-7}{12}$$

Solution
Verified by Toppr

To, add rational numbers their denominators should be same, so it will become common and numerators will be added to get answer.
$$LCM$$ of $$36$$ and $$12$$ is $$36$$
$$\therefore \cfrac{-7}{12}=\cfrac{(-7\times (3))}{(12\times(3))}=\cfrac{-21}{36}$$
Now, their denominator is same.
So,
$$\cfrac{-5}{36}+\cfrac{-21}{36}=\cfrac{-5-21}{36}=\cfrac{-26}{36}$$
