Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated in the second battle of Tarain in 1192 by Mohammad Ghori and soon after was executed on a charge of conspiracy. Prithviraj's son Govindraja IV succeeded him. He moved to Ranthambhor and founded a powerful Chauhan kingdom there.
