Question

An aromatic compound 'A' on treatment with $$CHCl_3/KOH$$ gives two compounds 'B' and 'C'. Both B and C give the same product 'D' when distilled with Zinc dust. Oxidation of D gives E having molecular formula $$C_7H_6O_2$$. The salt of E on heating with soda lime gives F which may be obtained by distilling A with zinc dust. Identify A to F.

An organic compound A with molecular formula C7H8 on oxidation by chromylchloride in the presence of CCl4 gives a compound B which gives positive tollen's test. The compound B on treatment with NaOH followed by acid hydrolysis gives two products C and D. C on oxidation gives B which on further oxidation gives D. The compound D on distillation with sodalime gives a hydrocarbon E. Below 60oC, concentrated nitric acid reacts with E in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid forming a compound F. Identify the compounds A, B, C, D, E and F?

Q5
An organic compound $$(A)$$ $$({C}_{5}{H}_{8}{O}_{3})$$ on heating with soda lime gives $$(B)$$ which reacts with $$HCN$$ to give $$(C)$$. The compound $$(C)$$ reacts with thionyl chloride to produce $$(D)$$ which on reaction with $$KCN$$ gives a compound $$(E)$$. Alkaline hydrolysis of $$(E)$$ gives a salt $$(F)$$ which on heating with soda lime produces n-butane. Carful oxidation of $$(A)$$ with dichromate gives acetic acid and malonic acid. Give the structures to $$(A)$$ to $$(F)$$ with proper reasoning.
