Question

An electric charge 103μC is placed at the origin (0, 0) of X-Y co-ordinate system. Two points A and B are situated at (2,2) and (2, 0) respectively. The potential difference between the points A and B will be :
  1. 4.5 volt
  2. 9 volt
  3. zero
  4. 2 volt

A
4.5 volt
B
9 volt
C
2 volt
D
zero
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The distance of point A from origin is rA=(20)2+(20)2=4=2
The distance of point B from origin is rB=(20)2+(00)2=4=2
Potential at A due to charge Q=103μC is VA=Q4πϵ0rA=Q8πϵ0 as rA=2
and potential at B is VB=Q4πϵ0rB=Q8πϵ0 as rB=2
Potential difference between A and B =VAVB=Q8πϵ0Q8πϵ0=0 volt.
