Question

An electric heater calibrated $$1.5\,kW, 230\,V$$ is connected to a household branch circuit having $$5$$ A fuse wire and is, made to work. What will happen?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given,
The power rating of the electric heater, $$P=1.5\ kW=1500\ W$$
Voltage, $$V=230\ V$$
Safe current rating of fuse wire, $$I_{safe}=5\ A$$

We know,
$$P=VI$$

$$\implies I = \dfrac PV$$

$$\implies I = \dfrac {1500}{230}$$

$$I=6.52\ A$$

$$I\gt I_{fuse}$$
$$\therefore the fuse wire will burn$$
