Reason (R): In mountainous area with increase in altitude there is corresponding decrease in temperature, which leads to change in vegetation types.
Select the correct option from the given alternatives.

  1. Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) explains (A)
  2. Both (A..) and (R) are true but (R) does not explain (A)
  3. (A) is false and (R) is true
  4. (A) is true and (R) is false

A
(A) is false and (R) is true
B
Both (A..) and (R) are true but (R) does not explain (A)
C
Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) explains (A)
D
(A) is true and (R) is false
Solution

The character and extent of vegetation are mainly determined by temperature along with the humidity in the air, precipitation and soil. On the slopes of Himalayas and the hills of Peninsula above the height of 915 metres, the fall in the temperature affects the types of vegetation and its growth, and changes it from tropical to subtropical temperature. So in the mountainous area with the increase in altitude there is corresponding decrease in temperature, which leads to change in vegetation types.
