Question

A lawn roller is pulled along a horizontal surface through a distance of 20 m by a rope with a force of 200 N. If the rope makes an angle of 60o with the vertical while pulling, the amount of work done by the pulling force is:
  1. 2000J
  2. 1000J
  3. 20003J
  4. 3464J

A
20003J
B
1000J
C
3464J
D
2000J
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Distance covered by the lawn roller S=20m
As the rope along which force is applied is making an angle 600
with the vertical, this means it will make an angle or 300 with the horizontal direction.
Component of force in the direction of displacement =200×cos300=1003
Work done =Fcos300×S=1003×20=3464J
Hence,
option (A) is correct answer.
