Pteridophytes are primitive vascular plants that are seedless. They reproduce by spores. Hence, they are called as vascular cryptogams. The reptiles are first true land animals that evolved after amphibians. In a similar way, the pteridophytes are the first land plants which evolved after Bryophytes. Hence, pteridophytes are sometimes called as "Botanical snakes" or "snakes of the plat kingdom".
