I ) Area of figure (a)

= Area of rectangle ABCM + area of rectangle LCKD + area of rectangle KEFJ + area of rectangle IFGH

[Area of rectangle=length×breadth]

= Area of [figure(1)+figure(2)+figure(3)+figure(4)]

=(4×2)+(6×1)+(2×3)+(2×4)

=8+6+6+8

=28 cm2


ii ) Area of figure (b)

= Area of rectangle IJGH + Area of rectangle ABCJ + Area of rectangle DEFG

= Area of [figure(1)+figure(2)+figure(3)]

=(5×1)+(2×1)+(2×1)

=5+2+2

=9 cm2
