One of the important human diseases, the African eye worm Loa loa, transmitted by the bite of mango fly chiefly found in Africa. They migrate from the subcutaneous tissue to the eyeball, hence the name eyeworm. During their migration, they cause intense itching and swelling. They also cause swelling and pain in eyes, known as 'calabar swellings'
