Question

Can the speed of a body be negative?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

No, the speed of a body can never be negative. Speed is a scalar quantity given as:
$$Speed=\cfrac { Distance\quad Travelled }{ Time\quad Taken } $$
Distance traveled by a body is always positive. It may be zero, but is never negative. Time taken is also positive quantity
So, speed being the ratio of two positive quantities can never be negative.
