Question

Considering the elements B, C, N, F and Si the correct order of their
non-metallic character is:

(a)B>C>Si>N>F (b) Si>C>B>N>F
(c) F>N>C>B>Si (d) F>N>C>Si>B

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Ongoing from left to right in a period, metallic character increases. So the non-metallic character decreases.
On moving down the group, metallic character increases. So the non-metallic character decreases.

Considering the above two points, the correct order of non-metallic character is B>C>Si>N>F
Note: Carbon is more non-metallic than Silicon as it is above in the periodic table than Silicon and Silicon come left in the periodic table before N and F.
