Lysine is an essential amino acid required for human nutrition. Since this cannot be produced by the body, it becomes neccessary to include it in the human diet either through produces which have a high lysine content or should be taken in as supplements. Though mostly found in meats, fish, and poultry products, other foods that have lysine are cheese, beans, brewer's yeast, mung bean sprouts and some fruits and vegetables such as legumes and soya. Food grains with their low protein content are low sources of lysine. however, seitan, quinoa and amaranth have a high content of lysine.
