Question

Define critical angle and polarising angle what is the relation between the two angles ?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Polarizationangle: The angle at which unpolarized light or other electromagnetic radiation must be incident upon a nonmetallic surface for the reflected radiation to acquire maximum plane polarization.
Criticalangle: The angle of incidence beyound which rays of light passing through a denser medium to the surface of a less dense medium are no longer refracted but totally reflected.
Relationship for light waves stating that the maximum polarization (vibration in one plane only) of a ray of light may be achieved by letting the ray fall on a surface of a transparent medium in such a way that the reflected ray makes an angle of 900 with the reflected ray.
