Define the term alluvium.
- Alluvium is a loose soil or
sediments which are formed due to erosion by rainwater.
- It is typically made of small particles of
silt and clay and larger particles of sand and gravel.
- It is
found in the areas of northern plains beginning from Punjab to West Bengal and
Assam and also in the deltas of Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery and Mahanadi
in peninsular India.
