Question

Describe a Pyrometer.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Pyrometer is a instrument for measurement of temperature. Most of pyrometer measured relatively high temperature such as encountered in furnaces. Pyrometers are closely related to bolometer and thermistor and are used in thermometry. On the basis of how it works, it has mainly four types :
1. Radiation pyrometer.
2. Optical pyrometer.
3. Resistance pyrometer
4. Thermocouple pyrometer.

A student forgot to add the reaction mixture to the round bottomed flask at 27oC but instead he/she placed the flask on the flame. After a lapse of time, he realized his mistake, and using a pyrometer he found the temperature of the flask was 477oC. What fraction of air would have been expelled out?
