We know in a longitudinal wave , the distance between two successive compressions and rarefactions is called wavelength , λ , therefore distance between a successive compression and a rarefaction will be λ/2 ,
now by , v=λ/T ,
speed of the wave is constant because medium is same , now to keep speed v constant for λ/2 , time should be T/2 .
