The Rashtrakutas came to power in the 8th century. Dantidurga was the founder of the Rashtrakuta kingdom. The Rashtrakutas were very tolerant rulers. They were great patrons of art, architecture, and literature.
They built a beautiful Kailash temple in Ellora and carved out the rock cut caves at Elephanta near modern Mumbai.
