Energy is neither absorbed nor released during expansion of ideal gas in vacuum. Why?

In an ideal gas, there are no intermolecular forces of attraction. hence, no energy is required to overcome these forces. Like, when a gas expands against vacuum, work done is zero as text hence internal energy of the system does not change, there is no absorption nor release if energy during the expansion of ideal gas in a vacuum.
