Question

Excess of KI and dil. H2SO4, were mixed in 50 ml H2O2. The I2 liberated required 20 ml of 0.1 N Na2S2O3. Find out the strength of H2O2 in g/lit1?
  1. 0.34g/lit
  2. 0.17g/lit
  3. 0.68g/lit
  4. 1.36g/lit

A
0.17g/lit
B
0.34g/lit
C
0.68g/lit
D
1.36g/lit
Solution
Verified by Toppr

I2+2Na2S2O3>Na2S4O6+2NaI
20ml of 0.1M Na2S2O3 will react with (20)(0.1)(1000)(2) moles of I2 which is 0.001 moles or 0.002 equivalents. Thus there are 0.002 equivalents in 50ml of H2O2. Hence, its strength is 0.002 x 17/0.05=0.68
