Bindingenergycurve: The fact that there is a peak in the binding energy curve in he region of stability near iron means that either the breakup of heavier nuclei (fission) or the combining of lighter nuclei (fusion) will yield nuclei which are more tightly bound ( less mass per nucleon).
Importance of Binding energy curve: Nuclear binding energy is defined as the energy required to break up a nucleus into its individual nucleons i.e., protons and neutrons. The more important than the total binding energy is the energy per nucleon against mass number.
gammadecay: One of the three main types of radioactive decay is known as gamma decay (γdecay).
During gamma decay, the energy of the parent atom is changed by the emission of a photon. The resulting energy of the daughter atom is lower than the parent atom. A photon is a massless particle with a very small wavelength.
