Explain the formation of waterfalls.

Waterfalls are generally formed at the upper course of rivers as a result of erosion. The process of erosion, the wearing away of earth, plays an important part in the formation of waterfalls. It erodes soft rock more quickly than hard rock and this may lead to the creation of a waterfall. The soft rock erodes more quickly, undercutting the hard rock.
