Explain why during electroplating, the article to be plated is always made the cathode?

The technique used in electroplating is electrodeposition. The part to be plated is cathode of the circuit. It is similar to galvanic cell. The anode is made of the metal to be plated on that part. Both components are immersed in solution called electrolyte containing metal salts.
