Adding and Subtracting $x^{2} y^{2}$ from the equation, we get:
$x^{4} + x^{2} y^{2} + y^{4} + x^{2} y^{2} - x^{2} y^{2}$
= $[(x^{2})^{2} + 2 x^{2} y^{2} + (y^{2})^{2}] - x^{2} y^{2}$
= $(x^{2} + y^{2})^{2} - x^{2} y^{2}$
