Question

Fill in the blank spaces by choosing the correct word.

The focal length of the objective lens of compound microscope is always ..........(less\more) than the focal length of eye lens.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Less
The objective lens has a very small focal length. The object is placed just over F of the objective lens forming a magnified image. This image is the object for the eye lens and lies between focus and optical center of the eye less as it has a greater focal length as compared to the objective lens. Since the new object is between focus and and optical center, it forms a virtual, magnified image which falls on the eye.
