Question

Fill in the blanks to make the statement true.
If the price of sugar is decreased by $$20\%$$, then the new price of $$3\,kg$$ sugar originally costing $$Rs.120$$ will be .......

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Original cost of $$3\,kg$$ sugar is $$120$$

Hence, cost of $$1\,kg$$ sugar

$$= \dfrac{120}{3} = Rs.40$$

Decreased percentage $$= 20\%$$

Decrease amount $$= \dfrac{20}{100} \times 40 = Rs.8$$

Hence, new price of 1 kg sugar is $$40 - 8 = Rs.32$$

Price of 3 kg sugar $$= 32 \times 3 = Rs.96$$
