Question

Find the difference:
$$5/8 + 3/4 - 7/12$$

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given
$$5/8 + 3/4 - 7/12$$
(Refer image)
LCM of 4, 8 and 12 $$=(2\times 2\times 2\times 3)=24$$
$$5 / 8=(5\times 3)/(8\times 3)=15 / 24$$ (by dividing 24/ 8=3)
$$3 / 4=(3\times 6)/(4\times 6)=9/12$$ (by dividing 24/ 4=6)
$$7 / 12=(7\times 2)/(12\times 2)=14 / 24$$ (by dividing 24/12 =2)
Now, $$5 / 8 + 3 / 4 -7 / 12=(15+18-14)/24$$
$$=(33-14)/24$$
$$=19/24$$
Hence, $$5/8 + 3/4 - 7/12=19/24$$
