Question

Find the difference:
$$6\dfrac{2}{3}-3\dfrac{3}{4}$$

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given
$$6\dfrac{2}{3}-3\dfrac{3}{4}$$
$$20/3-15/4$$
(Refer image 10.1)
LCM of 3 and 4 $$=(2\times 2\times 3)=12$$
Now, $$20 /3=(20\times 4)/(3\times 4)=80 /12$$
$$15/4=(15\times 3)/(4\times 3)=45/12$$
$$\therefore 20/3-15/4=80/12-45/12$$
$$=(80-45)/12$$
$$=35/12$$
(Refer image 10.2)
$$=2\dfrac{11}{12}$$
Hence, $$6\dfrac{2}{3}-3\dfrac{3}{4}=2\dfrac{11}{12}$$
