Question

Find the height above the surface of the earth where weight of a body becomes half.
  1. (21)R
  2. R2
  3. R(2+1)
  4. R2

A
R(2+1)
B
R2
C
R2
D
(21)R
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given, weight of the body becomes half.
Let that height be h.
mg2=GMm(R+h)2

And, g=GM(R)2 12=1(1+hR)2
Hence, h=(21)R

Multiplying numerator and denominator by 2+1
h=R2+1
