Question

Find the sum:
$$\dfrac{7}{12} + \dfrac{9}{16}$$

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given
$$\dfrac{7}{12} + \dfrac{9}{16}$$
Prime factorisation of $$12$$ and $$16$$ to find LCM
$$12=2\times 2\times 3=2^2\times 3$$
$$16=2\times 2\times 2\times 2=2^4$$
$$\therefore$$ LCM of $$12$$ and $$16$$ $$=(2\times2\times2\times2\times3)=48$$
$$\implies \dfrac{7}{12} + \dfrac{9}{16}=\dfrac{(7\times4)+(9\times3)}{48}$$
$$=\dfrac{28+27}{48}$$
$$=\dfrac{55}{48}$$$$=1\dfrac{7}{48}$$
