Question

For the gas phase exothermic reaction, A2+B2C2 carried out in a closed vessel, the equilibrium moles of A2 can be increased by:
  1. increasing the temperature
  2. decreasing the pressure
  3. adding inert gas at constant pressure
  4. removing some C2

A
removing some C2
B
decreasing the pressure
C
adding inert gas at constant pressure
D
increasing the temperature
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The reverse reaction is an endothermic reaction. It is favoured by increasing the temperature so that more heat is absorbed which will nullify the effect of increasing temperature.
The reverse reaction proceeds with decrease in the number of moles. When pressure is decreased, the equilibrium will shift to left.
When an inert gas is added, the equilibrium will shift in a direction in which the number of moles decreases. This is true for the reverse reaction.
