Question

For the gas phase reaction, C2H4+H2C2H6(ΔH=32.7kcal), carried out in a closed vessel, the equilibrium moles of C2H4 can be increased by:
  1. increasing the temperature
  2. decreasing the temperature
  3. removing some H2
  4. adding some C2H6

A
removing some H2
B
adding some C2H6
C
decreasing the temperature
D
increasing the temperature
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Since ΔH is negative, it is an exothermic reaction. Hence, by using Le Chatelier's principle, increasing the temperature will favor the formation of C2H4. Also, the same principle can be applied for decreasing the concentration of H2 which means removing some H2 and increasing the concentration of C2H6or by adding C2H6 into the closed vessel.
