Experiment in 2 and 4 show that in tube 2 containing both air and water iron rusts after 1 week but if a layer of oil is added to the surface of water then these layers are not miscible with each other and oil layer prevents the entry of air to reach to iron fillings so in tube 3 the fillings are prevented from rusting.
