Question

Frame and solve the equations for the following statements:
The sum of the two numbers is 21 and their difference is 3. Find the numbers

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let the numbers be x and y

Now, Sum is 21
x+y=21......................................(1)

and assuming that x is the Larger Number

Putting xy=3x=y+3 in eq(1) we get

2y+3=21y=9

So, x+9=21x=12
Hence, the numbers are 9 and 12.
