In Rutherford's alpha-particle scattering experiment, Rutherford derived the conclusion that nucleus of an atom is positively charged based on this experimental evidence:

When the alpha rays were made to fall on the foil, few of the rays were deflected by 180o. This shows that the mass of the atom is concentrated at a very small space and is positively charged because it deflected the positively charged rays. This positively charged space was called the nucleus.
