i. Kolkata receives heavier rain than Lucknow because the Bay of the Bengal branch of the South-West Monsoon advances North-Eastward, after picking moisture from the Bay of Bengal. The Lower Ganga Valley receives the rainfall first and upper Ganga later on. Kolkata is in lower Ganga Valley. The rainfall goes on decreasing as it proceeds through the Ganga Valley. The Monsoons move Westward and get drier as the distance from the sea is increasing. Thus, Kolkata receives move rainfall than Lucknow, which is in Upper Ganga Valley.
ii. Over the Arabian Sea, monsoon winds alternately blow from the northeast and the southwest, reversing their dominant direction with the seasons. In the summer, the winds blow from the sea toward land from the southwest, bringing heavy rain to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and neighbouring countries. In the winter, the winds blow from Southwest Asia toward the sea. In the summer, the winds blow from the sea toward land, bringing heavy rain to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and neighbouring countries.
iii. Thar is a desert because the soil of this Desert remains dry for most of the year having a scanty rainfall. There are very few local tree species. The sand in the desert is highly mobile due to strong winds.
