Question

Hydrogen peroxide cannot be concentrated easily because:
  1. it is highly volatile in nature
  2. it does not dissolve in H2O
  3. it has a very high boiling point
  4. it decomposes at its boiling point

A
it decomposes at its boiling point
B
it is highly volatile in nature
C
it does not dissolve in H2O
D
it has a very high boiling point
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Hydrogen peroxides cannot be concentrated easily because it decomposes at its boiling point.

Dilute H2O2 is concentrated to about 50% by slow evaporation on a water bath. It is further concentrated to 90% in a vacuum desiccator using conc. H2SO4 as a dehydrating agent.

Further concentration to 99% is obtained by distillation under reduced pressure.

Option C is correct.
