The Federalism model of the government in India is based on Canadian Model. Accordingly India is a Union of States which means States are part of the Indian Union and do not have the right to secede(separate) themselves from the Union. The states are given power to legislate in within their ambit and some states are conferred special status according to the need, requirement, population representation and historical background.
