  • X-Y sex determination is seen in humans, where the Y chromosome is the sex-determining chromosome. The genetic makeup of females is XX and the genetic makeup of males is XY. Female ovum produces X chromosome whereas male sperm can carry either X or Y chromosome. Therefore, chances of the ovum to be fertilized by the male sperm having X or Y chromosome is 50%. Hence, there is always a 50% chance of getting a baby boy and a 50% chance of getting a baby girl.
